Migration
In conjunction with performances, the Birds offer a workshop that introduces participants to some of the listening practices in Conference of the Birds. The exercises in the workshop guide participants into a space of shared spontaneous decision-making, into a visceral understanding of community. The workshop often culminates in a performance of Migrations, a companion piece to Conference of the Birds intended to be created on site.
Migrations has been created and performed in Boston and Cambridge, MA; Providence, RI; New York City; Washington, DC; Beijing, China; Maputo, Mozambique; and Kigali, Rwanda.
Story gathering
The Birds also offer Storygathering workshops, like those conducted during the creation of the performance. These workshops share practices used in the creation of the stage work to create a space where participants share stories of their own journeys, their own migrations and border crossings through words, visual art and movement.
